Ninth Circuit Hears SLF Argument In Employee Rights Case

On August 29, 2022, attorney Ari J. Stiller argued a significant employee rights case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The case, Melanie Sportsman v. A Place For Rover, Inc., involves a group of workers who perform pet care services on Rover.com. They claim that the company improperly misclassified them as independent contractors under California law. The trial court found in favor of Rover, but a Law360 article appearing after the Ninth Circuit argument notes that panel members agreed with many of Mr. Stiller’s positions. The article is called “Ninth Circuit Doubts Dog-Care App’s Claim It’s Not an Employer.” Full video of the argument can be found here.
